Why I don't think meditation will soothe your anxiety

Let me preface this by saying that I think meditation is an incredible practice and something I practise every day.

Do I teach it and recommend it? Yes.

Do I think you should practise it to reduce your anxiety? Yes and no (there’s nuance here).

Let me explain why 👇

When you’re dealing with anxiety, you’re activating the sympathetic nervous system.

This is the part of your nervous system responsible for energising you, getting you ready for action, for fight or flight.

When you’re activating the SNS, your body wants you to move!

You might have noticed, if you’ve tried meditation while experiencing anxiety, likely you found it difficult to stay still and your mind felt like a tornado of thoughts.

By choosing a practice that gives you the opportunity to move you’re helping your body complete and release the stress cycle.

This is what it means to work with your physiology, rather than against it.

Now here’s the game changer → when you integrate that movement (I’d recommend yoga) with somatic techniques, you get to quickly and very effectively come back into a place of regulation that’s going to allow you more stillness and create more space in your mind so you can make better decisions, open yourself up to relaxation or even get your work done faster.

If you’re ready to cultivate a calm, resilient mind so you can unleash your creativity and shine in your work, comment the word RESILIENCE to receive all the details of my new course starting in November ✨

→ If you want to start January taking a deep dive into yourself, regulating your nervous system and freeing your identity from your work DM me the word BLOOM, I’ve opened up a few 1:1 spots to work with me 🌻
